Start with the customer journey
List the reasons people visit the site: to understand a service, check fit, compare options, see work, understand location, estimate price or contact the business. Every major page should support one or more of those jobs.
Build the minimum useful architecture
- Home: positioning, priority services, proof and next step.
- Service pages: one page for each genuinely different buying decision.
- About/proof: experience, process, credentials and why the business exists.
- FAQs/process: details that prevent unnecessary back-and-forth.
- Contact: clear hours, service area and inquiry method.
Use local pages only when they add local information
A city page should answer city-specific questions such as access, neighbourhoods, travel patterns, venues or coverage. Creating dozens of near-identical pages with swapped place names creates weak content and makes the site harder to maintain.
Design for mobile first
Most local-service research happens on phones. Keep tap targets large, forms short, navigation predictable and important contact actions visible without covering the content. Test the real site on slower networks, not only a fast office connection.
Choose technology you can maintain
A simple site may need only static HTML or a lightweight CMS. Complex businesses may need booking, account or pricing functionality. If the workflow truly requires custom logic, custom software development for business systems can be evaluated as one route, but it should follow a documented business process rather than become the process.
Measure the right outcomes
Track qualified inquiries, calls, bookings and the pages that assist them. Traffic growth without better lead quality can create more support work without improving the business.
